Our Story
We started as Watkins Feed & Supply in a rented space in the Watkins Elevator in 1979. Our ambition from the start was to be "Small enough to know you, growing to serve you".
We made a commitment in the beginning to deliver excellent customer service and the best quality feed available. We strongly believe Purina’s dedication to research and innovation at the LongView Animal Nutrition Center coincided with our goal of offering our customers the latest and greatest in the feed industry. We have been Checkerboard Proud since the beginning and haven’t looked back. (Check out those shirts!!)
In 1983, we moved the feed store and our growing family to our current location, one mile west of Watkins on Highway 36. We were so excited about our new showroom, loading dock and warehouse! With the added space inside, we were able to expand our inventory. We also added more outside offerings, including livestock tanks and fencing supplies. With our customers, family and friends, we joined together to celebrate this new chapter in our business and our lives.
In 2001, it was time to expand the store again. With the new look, and a new name—O’Malley’s Mercantile debuted in December. To better meet our customers’ needs, we expanded our basic tack offerings, pet supplies and animal and horse health supplies, while adding clothing, home goods, wild bird feed and accessories, toys, jewelry and hay. We were blessed to spend a great day with family, friends and customers at the Grand Opening the next spring.
We hope to continue to build on the foundation we started more than 30 years ago—we are still "Small Enough to Know you, Growing to serve you". To our new customers, thanks for stopping by, we look forward to meeting you. To our old friends, thanks for your continued patronage and friendship. We so appreciate your business and look forward to serving you for the next 30 years to come!
